12 May Precious floral water: an essential beauty treatment
Floral water (hydrosol) can be misted on your face in the morning and evening before makeup as part of your skincare routine. Floral water can also be used as a facial tonic to refresh and invigorate your skin after cleansing.
Which would you choose?
Rose floral water (hydrosol) has long been recognized for its tonic, astringent, and soothing properties. Ideal for reducing redness and calming skin reactions, it also has a tightening effect on the skin. Rose floral water has a gentle and delicate perfume, and can be used in homemade cosmetics.
Cornflower floral water (hydrosol) has been celebrated for its beneficial eye care effects since the Middle Ages. Known for its decongestive, toning, and calming effects, it is an essential treatment for tired, puffy eyes. Apply as a compress over closed eyes to soothe irritations and diminish signs of fatigue. Thanks to its regenerating properties, cornflower floral water brightens the skin and refreshes dull complexions.
Orange blossom floral water (Neroli) is used for its regenerating, calming, and soothing properties. Its flowery and fruity aroma helps to refresh, tone, and relax the skin. Well-suited for dry, sensitive, mature, and tired skin, this floral water brightens dull complexions.
Floral waters (hydrosols) are extracted from fragrant plants inside a still through steam distillation. Once the process is complete, the plant’s essential oils and floral waters are separated. During distillation, steam passes through the plant material (flowers, roots, leaves, etc.), breaks up the small pockets of essential oil, and releases the aromatic molecules. The infused steam is then sent through a cooling coil and transformed into a liquid known as hydrosol, above which floats a layer of essential oil. Essential oil is insoluble in water, and the two liquids do not mix. The essential oil is then separated from the precious floral water and retrieved in a condensing recipient.
Certain non-organic floral waters (hydrosols) can contain small traces of pesticides. What’s more, only unpolluted spring water should be used during distillation.
Choose organic floral waters (hydrosols) that have been issued a certificate like Ecocert. The Ecocert logo identifies certified organic products that respect the environment as well as mankind.
