Craig & Debbie Minke started up what was supposed to be a hobby farm in 2008 and look at them now!
They’ve been harvesting big beautiful organic blueberries for 5 years now and their business is exploding so fast they now call it their HaHa Hobby Farm! We’re proud to carry their Langley-grown blueberries in the store!
The Minkes really believe in community and in education which is one of the reasons we love them so much! They’ve been
employing students (and seniors) on their farm from the beginning, and they work closely with the local high school to teach kids in Grade 8 about farming the organic way; producing good food; and the virtues of farming. Students visit the farm throughout the growing season – then the Minkes offer the students their first jobs – paying more than the average wage for pickers, and helping the kids connect to the harvest they helped produce. Often the student’s whole family joins them, and everyone gets hands—on experience with farming.
We’re happy to support this great local family business and the local organic scene. Bringing community together is one of the more warm and fuzzy aspects of the organic lifestyle that we just love to support!
Way to go Minkes!
