03 Apr Are Environmental Issues Important to You? Vote with your Dollar!
At Organic Grocer we’re happy to work with ethical companies that really go the extra mile to make a difference in our world. Salus is one of those companies and we’re so happy to share their work with you. If environmental issues are important to you, and you choose to vote with your dollar, you might consider voting for Salus. Here’s why:
The efforts of Salus and its employees, to achieve their own environmental goals and thus to significantly exceed European and national legal standards have been repeatedly honoured:
– The company is holder of the environment award of the German Federal Working Committee
for Environmentally Conscious Management (B.A.U.M.).
– EU eco-audit (EMAS): since 1996 Salus has been regularly commended for its efforts and
successes in environmental management.
– In 2003 Salus company owner, Mr. Otto Greither was voted eco-manager of the year by the
Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the economy magazine “Capital”.
Salus has over the course of its long company history gained a wealth of ecological ability which forms the basis of the exemplary sustainable orientation of the business.
In the foreground of all practical efforts for protection of the environment is the consistent work on the reduction of the use of resources, above all in the fields of water, energy, packaging and transport.
At Salus, environmentally friendly alternatives to standard production lines and materials have been preferred for a long time, even when they often involve more labour, or are subject to higher costs to put into effect.
The Salus environment program defines the primary goals of an environmentally sound company policy, such as energy saving measures, waste reduction, increased use of more eco-friendly packaging materials etc.

Hydroelectric Power Plant
Particularly significant is the environmentally friendly power generated by two hydroelectric power plants at SALUS Haus and the continuous efforts to reduce energy consumption.

Organic Raw Material
The use of organically grown herbs is promoted throughout the Salus company group.
In the first half of the 1990’s Salus began a groundbreaking project: the building up of ecologically sound herb farms in southern Chile. With persistence, enthusiam and a wealth of ideas the Salus organic farms developed into model businesses both ecologically and socially.
Ecology is the future
Besides the economic criteria, the Salus Schoenenberger philosophy is mainly focused on ecological and social concerns. These lie in the protection of species, in the naturally and socially compatible cultivation of medicinal plants and in the use of environmentally friendly material, in waste prevention as well as in environmentally responsible production methods.
In 1999 our Environment Consultant, Mr. Thomas Guenther was awarded the B.A.U.M. Environmental Award from the German Federal Working Committee for Environmentally Conscious Management for his achievements in favour of preventive environmental protection at SALUS Haus and for the whole company.
In honour of Earth Day we’ve put all the Salus tonics on sale – from children’s multi’s to digestive aides – all of them! Pop in and stock up while you can 🙂
